Actor Jang Keun Suk talks about his directing debut for a short film “Great Inheritance.”
Jang Keun Suk has recently made an appearance at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) where he talked about his first experience at becoming a film director.
When asked about his inspiration, Jang Keun Suk reveals, “I tend to write scenarios when I feel bored. There are times when I get inspired by the films I watch or sharing stories while going out with my friends. My next project is somewhat similar to ‘Great Inheritance.’ However, it is a film where you have questions until the very end. I want to make a movie which makes you go ‘What is happening?’ until something dramatic strikes at the end.”
With regards to the most difficult part of being a director, the actor reveals, “It was a fight against time. It was also really difficult to look for locations. Whenever the production company failed, there are times when I had to call directly by myself.”
When asked about the differences about acting and directing, Jang Keun Suk explains, “Whenever I act, I have always thought that when I struggled with something and kept quiet, nobody else would know about it. However, as a director, I realized that it was not true. The camera is honest. The director is also responsible for the actors who are the heart of a movie. It felt like I was in charge of these people’s name and reputations as well as my own, which is why I was worried.”
Meanwhile, the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) runs until July 31.
