1TYM's Song BaekKyung as DJ Posted March 29, 2002 by Chrissy
1TYM's rapper, Song BaekKyung, is going to stand as a DJ.
Beginning on the 1st of next month, he will be hosting MBC's FM station "Song BaekKyung's Double Impact".
He has been passed "the baton" by Moon Hee Jun. When Moon Hee Jun had to rest for a week due to an injury, Song BaekKyung acted as his substitute for that week and resulted in becoming the new DJ.
He, who has always been seen as a nice fit candidate for being a DJ, is showing his passion by even writing the logo song and the bridge music himself! 1TYM, after their title song "Uh Muh Nee", is now performing "Make It Last" and getting good feedback.
SBS Drama - Jang Nara Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
SBS's new drama "Myung Rang So Nyuh Sung Gong Gi" is a hit in Korea! Where does all this popularity come from?
It was 5 am in the morning and the cast was getting ready to act out a "fight scene". It would be between two male roles, Jang Hyuk and Yoon Tae Young and also amongst the girls, excluding Jang Nara. Everyone fought as if it were a real street brawl that one may see, especially amongst the girls, Choo Ja Yun and Han Eun Jung. However, between the fight scene, Choo Ja Yun got hurt and began to sob sorrowfully and Jang Nara didn't know what to do. The fight was supposed to come to a stop was Jang Nara's character yelled at all of them for fighting.
Han Eun Jung plays the PatJi kind of role (the ugly sister in Cinderella). Jang Hyuk commented that Han Eun Jung and Jang Nara "both match their character exactly". This shoot was for their 5th episode and nobody could tell anybody who would end up being Jang Hyuk's partner. Who would he choose? Han Eun Jung or Jang Nara?
It had been their third night in a row that the whole cast stayed up throughout the night, shooting for this popular show. We hope that the reward for their effort comes.
Short News Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
Kpop's fanclub had a meeting not too long ago. Kpop did not fail to show their many fans who showed up, their talents and a wonderful stage performance!
The Korea-Japan mutually collaborated group "Asia H" is having their final performance.
Park Kyung Rim with her Park Go Tae Project finally had her first official stage on SBS's "Inki Gayo"! She performed two songs, one called "Yok Muk Neun Saram" ('An Insulted Person') and the other called "Chak Kak ae Neup" ('The Marsh of Illusion' -- being under a false illusion).
For her first piece, she taped it right before so that she could have her outfit on for her title song "Chak Kak ae Neup". During this dance song which holds a sort of Trot sound, she showed a sexy dance, surprising everybody with her glamorous graceful moves and her perfect face expression! She even showed people backstage a little taste of what was going to happen by doing a "tango-type" dance with her male partner. This choreography comes to her naturally. She wasn't quite happy about how it turned out and wished to reperform it, since it was being taped, but the staff members all said it was good and "chased" her off stage.
Before the shooting as "fellow" singers were waiting backstage and still going through rehearsal, she went through and passed out her albums as an official singer. With Park Soo Hong as her producer and Joo Young Hoon having written most of her songs, she is now going into official activities as a singer.
Her inferiority complex had always lied within her voice, but she has overcome this obstacle and she now can show her talents in singing. And she does sing quite well.
She also is the model newbie singer. She does everything as she is told and is friendly as possible in front of the camera. Park Soo Hong commented to her "Do as they ask" when the interviewer asked her to sing a piece. And she quickly agreed. Also, he commented "She practiced very hard, even through tears". But then, of course, Park Kyung Rim's remark was "I can cry easily at any time" as she acted out the motion of sticking a cutip into her eye.
All funds made from this album will proceed to help the needy and it seems that there will be great success in such a good deed. Because on the second day that her album was released, over 20,000 copies had been sold!
Ryu Shi Won - Cyber Terror Victim! Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
Talent and former singer Ryu Shi Won has been the victim of a cyber terrorist! Someone had hacked into his email account and sent out rude and obnoxious emails to fellow celebrities, especially female celebrities. Within the content were two pictures, both with taken with Ryu Shi Won and another girl. However, he said that one was fake and just made by someone and the other had been taken from his computer. Even more, his current cell phone number was all listed within the email content and the fact that he knew which female celebrities he was good friends with and that this person knew so much about Ryu Shi Won seems to point out to the police that it must have been someone who knows Ryu Shi Won well, someone who is not quite far away from him. The Public Prosecutor's Office are under investigation currently and we can only hope to catch this hacker (cracker is the correct term, but..) as soon as possible.
Shinhwa COMEBACK! Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
The six member group Shinhwa has finally returned with their fifth album, "Perfect Man". They shot their music video for their title song "Comeback To My Life" just a few days ago. The setting was at a type of a concert with their real fans cheering them on. It was of course a staged concert, much like the ending part of 5tion's "More Than Words" music video and many others. However, it was good to see all of the six members finally back together again.
We could see JunJin with his impressive body and unique dance steps, The "Dancing Hero" Minwoo, our leader Eric, Dong Wan who had been the busiest of the members appearing on various TV programs and acting as the DJ for a radio program, Andy who has finally returned, and Ggot Minam (expression used for males who look young but are quite pretty/handsome) HyeSung.
During the break, Minwoo was playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with his fans and when he continued to lose, he kept playing until he won. -.-;; For this song, the dance has gotten a bit sexier and they themselves have sophisticated one step furthur. It's good to see Shinhwa again. They are always full of energy and youth and seem to boost their surroundings up with energy also.
Finkl's Popularity Still On the Rise Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
In Korea, dance groups, especially female dance groups, usually do not last for very long. However, Finkl is still high on the run and so we take a deeper look into why?
Finkl... it has been roughly five years since their debut and they have now released their fourth album. It hasn't even been a month yet and over 400,000 copies of their fourth album have been sold already!
The interviewer followed them to their schedule. It was early in the morning, even before the sun had fully risen, this past Tuesday and it was already their third schedule of the day..! They are so busy lately that they don't have time to even eat at times, much less sit down to have a meal. Their schedule is packed for at least 4~5 more months for right now and who knows what other schedules will come up? However, there is a reason for their busy schedule. Besides their cute looks, whenever they are on a program, especially places like radio stations where you can only hear the voice, the program is fun. The Finkl members enjoy themselves so much that sometimes they even forget that it is their work. Even on TV, they act as if they would while they were having a party of their own.
A radio program PD stated that the reason why she thought Finkl was so popular was because they were attractive and that they were getting more and more attractive as they went along in life whereas many singers fail to do so and thus lose some of their glamorous image.
Another reason would have to be their honesty. On show programs, the Finkl members all confidently and honestly revealed their idea male styles. Lee Jin said talent GoSoo and Hyori said she liked a style like WonBin. They act like themselves, not disguising their real selves in any way but expressing their own separate colors and styles separately but ultimately blending together quite well. And so on some TV programs, they aren't even given a script but just told to do whatever and they still don't fail to make it a pleasurable time for viewers.
Finkl said that "Now, viewers know what's fake and how fake things are when they watch TV." So they threw away that thought of having to act fake. They said that their personalities have never changed, but they could not show their personalities to the full extent till now.
During photo shoots, the Finkl members each holding a cute cuddly puppy, did not need any directions from the photographer to get the poses she wanted. And their poses now came naturally. Compared to their images during first album, they have sophisticated in many more ways than one.
Also, many news about the Finkl members breaking up were posted throughout newspapers nationally (in Korea). However, it was because they were going to be participating in activities separate and away from each other and so those rumors came about(read article below for more info). However, they said that this was not true to any extent and that they had been planning to work separately since second album. It's just that they wanted to expand into other aspects of the entertainment industry.
So with their increasing experience in the entertainment world, of five years, they are now quite experienced and will continue to experience new aspects. It seems they will last for a while because of their innocent yet honest image.
Hong Kyung Min - Laser Surgery Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
Hong Kyung Min has become a "Beautiful Skin Man".
Three weeks ago, he received laser surgery to clear up his skin at some dermatologists' clinic, having many now rise him to up to the status as a "Ggot Mi Nam" (directly translated: Flower Handsome Man... Refers to "beautiful", innocent-looking males)
He had suffered through having an acne problem throughout his cheeks and his forehead, even resulting in some calling him an "Ok Euh Tee" (read article below for description). However, he went into his skin care while he was resting, by recommendations by close friends and family members.
For more than the whole Spring season, he wore around a bandage, but finally he has been able to take it off and he is quite pleased with the results.
Hong Kyung Min will be holding a "SengGiBahlRahl Concert" at the Seoul SungGyoonGwanDae 600 year Anniversary (KiNyumGwan) from the 3rd to the 7th of next month.
Kim Jung Min Interview Posted March 28, 2002 by Chrissy
Kim Jung Min has finally returned after four years.
At 8pm, he sat down and "appeared" on Kim Ka Hee's "Choo Joong Talk" (seems like a magazine) where she asked if those tears he shed on the 26th at the Geurilla Concert (MBC) were real and what was the meaning behind those tears. It was the most tears that he had shown in front of the camera since his debut.
He answered that they were expressing everything: his thanks, happiness, fear...
The photographers however were busily snapping away at the pictures even before the interview was through, a strange sight. The reason for all this? After 2 bottles of soju (a strong alcoholic -traditional- beverage in Korea), he began to loosen up.
But then, he began to say things that should be said and that shouldn't be said, and his face had gotten slightly rosy. He continuously said "Gosh, I stopped drinking but..." as he poured more in. "Usually, I don't drink while I'm in front of the camera" but he continued to pour and drink. A few more words from Kim Jung Min were "Please like my music. I don't remember what went on in the past... I don't want to." "Just think of me comfortably like the man/boy/neighbor who lives next door". He continued to throw strange comments, and some curse words also came out but not in any aggressive way.
Many singers are known to fall into a hysteria after their stardom has escaped from their hands but Kim Jung Min did the opposite. He spent the past four years working on his new album 5th album and coming out with his title song "Jung Sang Ae Suh", which had been accompanied by a 200-manned Russian National Orchestra. He nor his company would not have let him work for four years on a single album if they did not have confidence in it, but their hard work seems to have paid off with the increasing succession of this song. One can seem to say "he is truly a real singer."
Singer Park Kyung Rim Posted March 25, 2002 by Chrissy
This is the first time that Park Kyung Rim (you may know her from NEW NONSTOP and other various shows) has appeared on a TV program that has charts since her debut(?) [as a singer].
On SBS's "Park Soo Hong and Park Kyung Rim ae Gi boon Joh eun Bam" ('PSH's and PKR's Good Feeling Night'), they underwent a program called "Park Ko Tae Project". They succeeded in releasing an album by Park Kyung Rim, and so on the 24th, she will appear on SBS's "Inki Gayo" singing her song "Chak Kak ae Neup".
All the money made from album sales have been promised by Park Kyung Rim to go to children with fatal diseases. On the 23rd, she announced that "in order to help them more, I will be dedicated to my activities as a singer(?), even if it means helping this kids only a small amount more".

Lee Soo Young to Court Posted March 25, 2002 by Chrissy
"Geu Ri Goh Sarang Hae" ('And I Love You')'s Lee Soo Young is going to court.
Last year, a bit too late, she found out that over 30,000 copies of her second album "Never Again" had disappeared and were missing. When her company filed a complaint to SKC who was in charge of the album production and print, they did not get a satisfactory answer back.
The album printing proves the album sales so if a problem occurs with the data and such, then there is a good chance that the albums were expired/destroyed illegally.
The company with which Lee Soo Young is currently signed with, Ah Gi Ki Hwek, said that "we will not tolerate/accept the excuse that SKC gave us saying that this happened because of a mistake on the inside" and they are asking for 2uk 1000manwon (roughly $210,000) based on the store-bought CD price.
And if this demand isn't met in time, then the law will get involved on the 25th.
On SKC's side, they said that "we will take responsibility for the disappearance of the albums due to poor care" but "it is impossible for us to repay you by the cost of store price."
Rich -- His Real Identity...? Posted March 24, 2002 by Chrissy
Singer Rich. Many people, like myself, have probably wondered, "Wow, I have seen him somewhere before", but could not quite remember where. This new R&B singer, whose song and voice were known before his face was revealed, is actually Danny from the dance group Eagle Five!
In 1998, the five member group (which included Ron E, for those who are interested), split up. He was only 18 years old and his voice was still underdeveloped. The two major differences: he danced and he rapped. He was a dance singer. But he has returned as a R&B singer.
He said that after his team split, he went through hard times. For the first six months, he kept seeing his fans whenever he closed his eyes. Once, he wante to stand up on stage so badly that he couldn't resist and entered a singing/rap contest with his friends, wearing sunglasses and a hat to cover his face. It was a small stage and he could not help but feel degraded.
However, the major difference must be that he has changed from a lipsyncing dance singer to an R&B singer, who only does live stages. He said that he spent two years, practicing hard to get to this level.
Then, when he was in Eagle Five, he remembered that none of the members got much sleep and they were always under fatigue. So, they were still sleeping right before they stood up on stage. However, now, he sleeps in the car or get plenty of rest at his home the night before, so he's not as tired. He says that he feels more like a musician now then he was before and he enjoys it more.
Rich had chosen to take on a new name and a new self because he did not want to be known as Danny from Eagle Five. He had wanted to get recognition as a singer and as a musician; he wanted to start from scratch, so he hid his past identity. And he has succeeded in getting his recognition! He knew at the age of 13 what he was going to do for a career, and now has restarted. (To me, he seems to be more successful now than then... and I wish him luck.)
Internet Group Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
A newbie group has come out whose name makes you think of the image of a slender convertible sports car.
Their name is X-Ing, or "X-ing into next generation" meaning that they will act as a shortcut into the next generation. As a five-member male group, they have been getting much focus from the media.
The melody and high-pitch rapper, the leader Wun Jong Moon (20); the main vocal who is great at immitating other singers, Shin Dong Hwan (21); a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, second vocal Ja Young Hoon (21); jazz maniac Kim Dae Haeng (19); and rapper and awesome dancer Kim Hyun Bin (21) make up this new group.
One thing that makes sure that this group will succeed is the fact that they are under a test. Of course, their two songs "5112" and "Moo Shi Roh" were made last year, the entertainment group at which they are signed with (C&J Entertainment) wished for everything to be perfect, and so they sent the members into a year of practice.
But more important is their birth. Of course, the leader Wun Jong Moon is an original member of this X-ing group, but the other four members were participated in the "SM-Game", an internet audition game where they became the finalists, giving birth to a new era/style of auditioning. This fact has even caught the attention of Japan, and so NHK will be in Korea on the 27th to make a documentary out of X-ing.
On their debut album, not even their second album, they accented the album title. They used the chinese character saja sunguh "Gae Juk Byuk Ji", totally upheaving the logic in the music business. The album intro will be the song U2 sang for the movie "Mission Impossible" and their ending track will be in Japanese. They say that it is due to the Korea-Japan WorldCup.
Their title song is a hard-core dance piece entitled "A-Do". It was written by the leader Wun Jong Moon and he said that it was made to entertain people, so don't think about the meaning. Even though it is a hard-core piece, it is quite interesting that they harmonized the rap portions.
Wun Jong Moon stressed that "this [album/song] is not like the others. It is not just a simple hip hop piece but a piece that upholds such genres of music as R&B, funky, hardcore, rock, orchestral, and euro-dance. There is even parts where [we play the] instruments which appear".
On the 23rd of February, X-ing had held a concert in the Seoul Myung Dong MilliOhre performance hall to celebrate their album releasal very successfully. Their activities are expected to being next month.

Through their four albums, they have been continuously performing hit songs which were loved by their fans. After successfully ending their tour concert "Growing Up", they will end their activities with their appearance on the 24th on SBS "Inki Gayo" being their last stage before going into rest.
On the 21st, Click-B has decided to hold a 20-minute mini-concert on KMTV's "Show! Music Tank".
Finkl Members Act Separately Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
The four members of Finkl will be separately appearing on TV.
The team's mascot, Sung Yuri, has been officially cast on SBS's TV Drama Special "Na bbeun Yujah" ('Bad Woman') where she will take on the new task as an actress.
Main vocal, Ok Ju Hyun, has received the position as the DJ for MBC's radio program "Byul ee Bit na neun bam" ('The Night where the Star Shines'). Leader Lee Hyori is taking on the task as an MC of a Orak Program (translated -- arcade program, but these include variety shows such as "Il Bam", "Mok pyo dahl sung To yo Il", etc.) and will be debuting on the big screen. Member Lee Jin will be appearing on a sitcom.
It is the first time since their debut four years ago that the Finkl members will be acting separately.
Yuri, who had been receiving propositions to act in many movies and drams till now, will start these activities in May. She is determined to make this the start of her acting sessions/lessons that she had always dreamed of doing.
JuHyun, who had been always showing her rich social skills on radio programs, will take the mic on "Byul Bam" as the host. Ok JuHyun, whose wish had been to be a radio DJ, has finally had her dream come true.
Hyori, who has been officially signed to MC a KBS 2TV Orak Program, will also start her tasks as an actress in this upcoming month of June. Lee Jin is still thinking critically about whether to choose the KBS or SBS sitcom.
Finkl, who released their album "Young Won" just last month, will fold up their group activities in May to take on their individual tasks. The company with who they are signed with, DSP, stated that "they took on their separate tasks because all four members received very good opportunities and requests to [broaden their horizons and] try new things" and "it seems that these types of separate activities between the Finkl members will become more frequent in the future".

Park Ji Yoon in China Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Park Ji Yoon who left for the Chinese National Music Chart awards won for being the most popular foreign female singer..! Even before her departure, when news had spread about her invitation to the awards, critics were already perceiving that she would be a strong candidate to win an award. She will be awarded at the 3rd annual Chinese National Music Chart ceremony on the 13th of April at the Shanghai ManYuk Stadium.
The Chinese National Music Chart is a ceremony upheld by mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and many of the other more powerful parts of China, making it all the more special. She was given this award for the great success her "Sung In Shik" ('Adult Ceremony') brought when released late last year.
On the 21st, a person from Rock Records, when giving out Park Ji Yoon's current status, said that "it will be the first time someone in China, who spoke neither Chinese nor English, but a third different language, won an award at this ceremony".
At this stage where top stars including Jang Hak Goo, Jang Geuk Yung, and Yuh Myung (Leon Lai -- sorry, I only know this celebrity's actual Chinese name) will attend, Park Ji Yoon will perform "Sung In Shik" and "Nan Namja Ya" ('I'm a Man') to congratulate the ceremony.
Last year, Park Ji Yoon's hit songs "Sung In Shik" and "Dahl Bit ae norae" ('Moonlight Sonata') received immense popularity and recognition when it rose as high as 2nd place on the IFPI charts in Hong Kong! It has been know now that Park Ji Yoon's 4th album which included the song "Sung In Shik" sold over 100,000 copies in Hong Kong itself.
Park Ji Yoon is intending to officially start performances in Hong Kong after a short autograph session there. Also, in May she is planning on participating at a grand concert in Taiwan. Also, Park Ji Yoon's 5th album "Man", which was just released a week ago in both Taiwan and Hong Kong, sold over 20,000 copies in each place as soon as it was released, showing once again her popularity.
FOLLOWUP:
Park Ji Yoon's second song, following her title song "Nan namja ya" is "Nan sarang ae bba juhs jo" ('I fell in love'), which has a sweet melody that you can help but smile as you listen to this piece. Also, she has finally returned to being a lady after spending so much time giving people a strong impression and image as a man. She has returned to her sweet self that she first showed her audience and her fans when she was still performing "Steal Away" (2nd album), which had resulted in her having so many male fans. Due to its friendly and sweet melody, her second song has become popular in Korea and amongst her fans.
Kyung Bin's Death Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Do Ji Won, who plays Kyung Bin in SBS's drama "Yuh In Chun Ha", finally shot her death scene yesterday at Min Sok Chon. She could not hide her sadness as she stepped up to take her last shot. She had just received her script that morning, just as soon as she had arrived. Visiting ajumma's were laughing joyfully as they were told the news. When the reporter asked if they were said, one woman said "It's sad, but in history, Kyung Bin has to die".
As she arrived, she saw the 12 bottles of cola that had been set out to act as the poison she must drink. The sodas had been made flat, but she still looked worried and shocked as one of the staff members told her that she would have to drink all of it. First, however, Kang Su Yun who plays the part as Nan Jung and Jun In Hwa who plays the role as the queen (Moon Sung Wang Hoo) acted out their scenes as they laughed in victory at the news of Kyung Bin's defeat/death. However, Jun In Hwa couldn't hide the sadness from her face due to all the friendship that had built up between the whole 'Yuh In Chun Ha' family.
Finally it was Kyung Bin's turn. Even through many NG's, she did not lose her character. The audience which had formed around the cameras watched quietly, not being able to take their eyes off her acting. She had changed into a totally different person, into the Kyung Bin that everybody hates so much. She had to go through the difficult task of struggling to avoid drinking the poison, then finally having her mouth forced open as she was drowned in it. After the shoot, she sat there crying because she "just suddenly felt sad".
The reporter asked the PD, Kim Jae Hyung, if he would want to keep Kyung Bin alive. He said "even though it's sad to see her departure, Kyung Bin must die, historically." As he watched the actress act out her final scene, he commented that the fans/viewers will feel sympathy towards Kyung Bin when they see this scene. However, he asked Do Ji Won if she wanted Kyung Bin to live and she said "No, I don't want to act this out again." ^^;;
Kyung Bin has finally died, and the staff members could only watch sadly as she acted out her final cut where she was slowly dying as the poison spread through her body. Even on this cold, windy day, with her clothes wet from the poison, she still acted out her best. Her words to her fans were, "Thank you for caring for me so much and being so interested in me and for all your support. In my next drama, I hope you will do the same." She will soon start a new morning drama, leaving the drama which earned her recognition as a great actress.
Ad-Lib CF Stars Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
(I know some of these aren't music news, but I just thought some of you would be interested.)
Two of the funniest CF stars: Shin Dong Yub and Kim Jung Eun. They have both recently shot separate CFs and have been asked how they are so good.
Comedian Shin Dong Yub shot a CF for the wooden floor tile. He basically came in and made up most of the work, with only the basics being given to him. Even the camera director continuously asked him to continue what he was doing, knowing that something new and interesting would come out. He was asked how he could ad-lib so well, giving much pleasure to viewers. He answered that "everyone has a personal talent. A person who is naturally talented in music is probably going to have an advantage over someone who is equally as good, but only achieved this talent through effort. I just believe that I have a small amount of the talent to make people laugh naturally than other people." He shot this CF without care about the injuries he made during the shoot.
Talent Kim Jung Eun shot a car CF. Another person who appeared was the man who starred in WAX's music video "Hwa Jang Eul Go Chi Go" ('As I fix my makeup'). Till now, Kim Jung Eun's CFs have gone towards the cute side of her. However, on the 19th, it went towards her sexy side. As the shoot progressed, her ad-lib actions became stronger and stronger. She said that her secret was courage. She said that people much get rid of the worries that come into their heads. Will this be funny? How will people react? What if I make the atmosphere really bad? All these worries must be ridden of. She said that even though the start will be hard, once you get the courage to do it, you'll keep going through.
Nam Hee Suk's Child Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Comedian Nam Hee Suk has finally got a child! His daughter, Boh Ryung, was born on the 17th as a healthy 3.1 kg baby.. just in time too! Her father had been away for a while for a shooting, but luckily she was born four days later, after he had returned from his trip. Nam Hee Suk was busily checking all the cameras before bringing out his precious daughter in front of the cameras. Later, he was busily accepting congratulating phone calls from family and friends, and his grin could not be wiped off of his face.
His wife, dentist Lee Kyung Min, had worried about his return also. She had waited, however, for her husband to come back. (Unfortunately, this was not the case for Choi Jin Shil and Jo Sung Min, who had arrived late due to traffic.) Cameras were allowed into her hospital room and the reporter said that "amongst all the pregnant woman I've seen so far, you are by far the loveliest right now", especially since not many mothers allow cameras into their rooms as soon as the baby is born. Even with his busy schedule, Nam Hee Suk had always found time to buy his wife all the food she craved.
He had cried while his wife screamed in pain as she was giving birth, and he had cried as soon as he held his daughter in his arms. Her name, Boh Ryung, comes from his Go Hyang (hometown). He is now taking his first steps to being a real dad.
News on Hyun Jin Young Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Former hip hop star Hyun Jin Young officially and openly went into care for his drug abuse on the 18th of January, earlier this year (look at previous news for more info). According to his doctor, he has improved immensely and is now mentally and physically healthier. He even lost about 20 kg, now weighing about 78 kg. His doctor said that he proceeded well through this process because he was willing to go at it and would not give up.
Hyun Jin Young, who had been arrested several times due to drug abuse, was asked by the reporter what he thinks about the drug abuse issues that have recently appeared... His response: "If someone does drugs, you need not give him/her your sympathy. They may have started drug use due to a certain problem, but they do not continue to abuse drugs because of this problem. They continue because they cannot stop. I know because I went through all this."
Even though he had wished to run out of the hospital several times, he always stopped because of the support of his fans, his parents, and especially his girlfriend, talent Oh Suh Oon. Everytime he felt saddened and wished to run, he always looked at the letters and flowers his fans sent him, supporting him, wishing him good luck. However, it was his girlfriend who stood by his side. She actually appeared in his latest music video "Yo Ram". She said that "I wish everyone would forget the old Hyun Jin Young. He is a different person now."
Hyun Jin Young's final words were "From now on, I'll only show the sides of my life, living life to its best." This is his promise. And you could see the brightness in his eyes and his face. It is nice to see that he is not only physically healthier, but also mentally healthy.
With all the harsh atmosphere the entertainment world has been giving lately, with all these arrests and investigations, it is good to see something opposite that -- fixing the problem and succeeding.
Drug Abuse News Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Starting from November, the end of last year, the media has been shocking its viewers with news about drug abuse between stars. However, with the latest being that of Sung Hyun Ah (read article below for more info) and Kim Goo from Koyotae, many stars including top stars Um Jung Hwa and Kim Min Jong were under suspicion of drug abuse by the police. Both were proven innocent however, and they gave their opinions on the whole thing soon after; Um Jung Hwa even exploded in tears and tough guy Kim Min Jong even got teary. With Sung Hyun Ah's case, she confessed that she had been doing ecstacy with fellow celebrities, one of whom was top talent Miss K-something. This of course brought much suspicion to Kim Jung Eun. With the secrecy the police kept about their suspects, news reporters and viewers had no other way but to guess who would be next.
Till now, Kim Jung Eun had not said a single word regarding this issue. She lived with fear and turmoil "for the past two weeks while people pointed at [her] for something [she] did not do." However on this week, she finally had a conference with the reporters, finally voicing her opinion. She expressed the pain she went through as "everyone suspected [her] for no reason". Kim Jung Eun, earlier this month, received a test from the police, upon her request and she tested negative for drugs. She said that she had no other way but to prove confidently to the public her innocence and that was the reason she had not said a word till now.
On stage, she looked like her normal self. However, when she finally got off stage, there was a massive race amongst the reporters to interview her, even resulting in her injury. Currently as one of the biggest CF stars in Korea, she probably brought more interest to the media; there was much talk about her and what would happen about her CF's. Would she have to repay the companies like Hwang Su Jung did when she was arrested? Are there any CF requests coming in to her now? Also, her movie "Jeh Mit Neun Young Hwa" ('A Fun Movie') which was to be released while this whole case was happening, was also questioned. Would it be released? Of course, the director had no doubts or suspicions about Kim Jung Eun, and they confidently released the movie, telling everyone that they had known her too long and too well to know that she was not that type of a person.
During the conference, she could not hold back her tears any longer as she could finally tell everybody about her side of the story. Even through this whole happening, she was not affected, and she continued to proceed in her TV appearances. She said she could only do this because of the thought of her parents. She knew that if she showed her hurt and if affected her activities, her parents may be really upset, and so she continued to work. However, the people who helped her through this hard time was her parents, her fans, and her close friends whom she thanks very much. She thanks everybody who trusted her and who supported her.
Shin Seung Hun M/V Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Singer Shin Seung Hun has finally stood in front of the camera once again. He wrote the scenario for the music video for his second song, "Nuhl Wee-han Ee-byul" ('The Parting for You') in his eight album. It has been two years since he has acted in front of a camera and he could not hide his shyness and awkwardness.
However, as the shooting progressed, this awkwardness and timidness slowly disappeared. And he, like the perfectionist he is, kept demanding another shot, even though he got an OK sign. He said that it was quite hard because the director had asked him to interpret five emotions through one expression. However, later, he actually coached the younger actors who will appear, showing his dedication.
Till now, all the actors who starred in Shin Seung Hun's video have later become big stars, including Kim Ji Ho, Myung Sae Bin, and Jo In Sung. This time, the female star is a young newbie who resembles Jun Ji Hyun. Many people are predicting her stardom due to this trend, even though she will only be appearing for a short instant.
Poster Shoot Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
The soon-to-be-released movie "Il Ddan Ddwee Uh" ('Just run'), starring Kwun Sang Ooh (Mahs eehs neun Chung Hon), Song Seung Hun (Ka Eul Dong Hwa), Lee Bum Soo (Star Survival - Dong Guh Dong Rak.. 1st version), and Kim Young Jun ('ta jo ahl' in sitcom NEW NONSTOP), shot their poster for this movie.
Lee Bum Soo plays a police agent as the other actors play high school boys. Of course, because of its nature, the poster shoot was quite comical. One was where Lee Bum Soo and Song Seung Hun were busily fighting each other on an arcade game. Another was where the high school students had to have coins in their mouth. Of course, Song Seung Hun ended up spitting continuously because of the disgusting taste. (Coins aren't really yummy, you know.)
SIDE NOTE:
This movie was the first time Song Seung Hun had a fight (action) scene, which was shot with Kwun Sang Ooh, but you could tell they had practiced a lot. Song Seung Hun had previously done boxing and such sports, but this was his first time (according to him) that he actually fought somebody. This fight scene involved teamwork, because it was not one person who was acting, but everyone had to move together at the same pace to avoid injuries.
'Il Ddan Ddwee Uh' had taken up 27 ukwon (1 ukwon=$100,000). It will be released in April.
Son Tae Young's Return Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Song Tae Young has returned after six months of attending her school. She has been quiet for the past six months after the news of her and actor Shin Hyun Jun's relationship came out in the open (read news below for more info). She was shooting a coffee CF, playing the role of a sculpturist. However, she was worried because she was not talented in art, but that no longer mattered when she was just given a brush. Through this CF, she will return to her activites once more, showing once again her comfortable, child-like smile.
When she was asked how her dates were with Shin Hyun Jun, she answered "we haven't been able to go out for a while because he's away shooting a movie. But when we do, we just go to the movies, eat together... just do stuff that people normally do. It's a bit more comfortable now since everyone knows about our relationship."
Sung Shi Kyung, Lee Hyun Ooh - Photo Shoot Posted March 21, 2002 by Chrissy
Two male singers, Sung Shi Kyung and Lee Hyun. These two very different singers shot the summer fashion catalog together, surrounded by four female models. Sung Shi Kyung, who had till now only showed the mannerly prince-like side to himself, this time took on the task of looking natural. The camera director commented that it was good to bring out this more natural side of Sung Shi Kyung because his smile is sweet and innocent. On the other side, Lee Hyun Ooh is very much himself, his smile a bit awkward.
Sung Shi Kyung, lately has been spending his time attending school and at nights, recording his second album. Lee Hyun Ooh and Sung Shi Kyung could not help joking about a certain cut because Sung Shi Kyung was leaning his head against Lee Hyun Ooh's thigh. Sung Shi Kyung commented "wow, you're thigh is really soft" as the female staff members screeched. Then, one said "should us to just date?". It was their way of getting rid of the awkwardness. This shoot had been their second shooting together, but it had been the first time they were to have pictures with solely these two men together. Lee Hyun Ooh commented on Sung Shi Kyung that "his color is very clear and unique" as a compliment.
god's New Music Video Posted March 19, 2002 by Chrissy
Actor Jung Ooh Sung is once again taking charge of the megaphone.
He has decided to shoot god's third music video for a song in their fourth album, choosing the song, writing the scenario, casting actors... virtually everything himself!
Jung Ooh Sung, who has always been affectionate for the god members, had received great attention and interest when he casted for god's second album song "Geu dae nahl dduh nahn ee hoo roh" ('After you left me') himself.
god left their fans much grief when they left 4th album activities due to Park Joon Hyung's back injury, only after two months of performing. Therefore, as an apology and give pleasure to their fans, the cast will include top stars such as Jo In Sung, Shin Minah, and Kim Kwang Il.
And the company at which god is signed with, Sidus, will have their movie team work on the music video to make it seem like a short-cut, minimized movie. Currently, the scenario has been all written up and now they are in the process of working on other aspects of the music video. In the middle of this month, they will be shooting in a studio somewhere in the city of Seoul.
Recently, Jung Ooh Sung had appeared on newbie singer YUMI's video, acting with his long-time partner, Jun Ji Hyun.
KangTa as Actor Posted March 19, 2002 by Chrissy
Singer Kangta is taking his first steps towards being an actor.
He is debuting on the big screen on the much anticipated first film of the year entitled "Sung Nyang Pahl Ee So Nyuh ae Chae Rim".
Directed by Jang Sun Ooh and starring the TTL model Im Eun Gyung, Kangta plays the role of the singer who "Sung So" (played by Im Eun Gyung) misses and loves.
Director Jang Sun Ooh is said to have been under much peril, trying to decide who to cast as the part when he accidentally ran into a talented singer/songwriter, Kangta, who he had only believed to be a simple dance singer before.
Playing the role of the most beloved singer amongst teens (like he actually is), he himself edited and sang the main theme song for this movie. In the middle of this month, he is going to shoot the scene where he gets shot by Oh Bi Ryun who has a crush on Sung So. Also, next month he is shooting the scene of his big concert.
This movie is to be released in July.
Lee Jung Hyun confesses to liking... Posted March 19, 2002 by Jaimie
LEE JUNG HYUN ADMITS TO LIKING "S"
Who might this "S" be? Pop singer Lee Jung Hyun(22) admitted that she likes "S". With this one initial, many netzines are tryin to figure out who this mysterious "" is.
Last September's KBS 'yun ae ga joong gae', she was asked by reporter Kim Dae Hee if there was anyone that she liked, and she replied,"there is someone in my heart that I am thinking of, but I do not know if it would be right to reveal who he is." Kim Dae Hee asked
her for at least an initial, and she left him hanging with "S". She then later announced that "Later, when I am no longer intimidated, I am planning on revealing who "S" is.
During the shooting of 'yun ae ga joong gae', Kim Dae Hee joked,"could it be Son Bum Su?" who is a fellow MC for the show, before exploding with laughter. After many netzines saw this episode, they all went in search, determined to find out who "S" was.
One netzine said that "S" was Son Ho Young, who is a member of hit group GOD. Not long ago, Lee Jung Hyun came out on MBC Radio, 'click 1020' with GOD, and many fans got the impression that Lee Jung Hyun showed interest in Son Ho Young, who was then speechless about the foregoing rumor about him and top talent Song Hae Gyo('Soo Ho Chunsa', Hotel Lier',and the never forgettable drama 'Ga Ool Dong Hwa')
Another netzine told people that "S" was SeoTaiJi. Ever since she was young, she was a major fan of him, and even now, applauds him of being such a fine musician.
After hearing about these rumors, Lee Jung Hyun said, "Whether
"S" be famous or not, it is NOT that big of an issue for people to be getting worked up and nervous for."
god signed with Hyundai Posted March 19, 2002 by Chrissy
god has agreed to model for Hyundai (cars) for an extreme amount of money: 4 uk won for 3 months, which means 16 uk won for a whole year! So 1ukwon equals about $100,000 so you do the math. That's one of the best guarantees for a Korean singer/group, even a celebrity!
Starting on the 5th of next month (April), the new car, the "gook min" model, will be released. And god will leave on the 18th for LA to shoot the CF. The CF will be based around the idea around the image of the "gook min" Korean gasoo that everyone, regardless of male/female, likes! This advertisement is expected to air in the middle of April.
Also, god has recontracted with Korean communications company MegaPess (spelling?) for 6uk won for another full year. god's price is rising high~!!
BoA's song as Animation Posted March 19, 2002 by Chrissy
BoA, the talk of the town after getting 1st place on the Orion charts in Japan is now singing for a hit animation tv show! When she released her first album "Listen to My Heart", she also released a single along with it called "Every Heart". This is the song which will be featured on the hit anime show "Anuyasa". Previously, popular female vocals including Hitomi and Hamasaki Ayumi have sung for this show. Also, BoA's "Every Heart" has become the #1 cell phone belltone in Japan!
Singers Boycott Posted March 17, 2002 by Chrissy
On February 26th, singers including Um Jung Hwa, Shin Seung Hoon, and Lee Jung Hyun decided to reject appearances on m.net's "ShowKing M"!
The problems appear to have started because of the rivalry between the two Korean music channels: KMTV and m.net. The new owners of m.net, Jae Il Jae Dang, are said to have stopped KMTV's appearances. How? They, who have connections with the broadcastors that KMTV uses, caused the broadcast of KMTV to be cut off. A worker at KMTV stated that m.net was using their power instead of approaching KMTV fairly. However, a m.net worker stated that SO (the broadcastors)had made that decision on their own because of internal problems and that m.net had nothing to do with it.
However, strong supporters of KMTV, those who own part of KMTV, including Dae Young AV, Yae Dang Eum Hyang and iStar have stopped the singers within their groups to stop appearances on m.net.
Still on February 26th, it was released that singers including Park Ji Yoon, WAX, and Kiss who are other singers within these companies were going to appear on this day's broadcast of "ShowKing M". However, it seemed that if this would still be going on, then singers like Koyotae and Finkl who were to release their albums in March would also not appear on m.net.
Like last year, singers are excercising their rights by expressing their opinions. However, last year's case was revolved around trying to help their managers be more recognized and respect. In this case, they are only acting as products. It was predictable that this would have happened sooner or later, but not so harshly. We can only wait and see the results.
(Sorry for the bad translations)
Jekki Member, Com'back Again! Posted March 16, 2002 by Chrissy
Jekki's members Kim Jae Duc and Jang Su Won have released unexpectedly about their plans to released a duet album! Earlier this month, they had come out on cable TV and such with a new song under the name "J-Walk". However, nobody expected their official comeback until the news was revealed on SBS's "Inki Gayo".
J-Walk's song title is called "Suddenly", a slow pop ballad with an R&B feel. Instead of their dance songs which had made SechsKies popular, this rich, medium-tempo melody has the ability to take in a most varied age group, not just teens. However, just for the teen fans, there are also house, funky, and dance songs in the album. Also, the songs they have written and worked on for the past two years will be in this album, showing their dedication with a more luxurious sound. As the vocal, Jang Su Won clearly samples the rich vocals the each of the Jekki members possessed.
Producer Ahn Sung Il who had worked with Finkl, SechsKies, Click-B and so forth who had made these groups' songs very popular has decided to help J-Walk and produce their album. Kim Jae Duk, who has been respected as a dancer and a choreographer since SechsKies' first album, has taken on the task of choreographing their dance. Renowned photographer Jo Jae Hyun has decided to shoot their cover and Director Cha Eun Taek has said that he would make their two-cut music video. (J-Walk said that they will not be appearing in the video themselves).
It seems that five of the Jekki members will be performing together on the stage once again. Leader, Eun Ji Won, who has just recently released his new album "Double" and Lee Jae Jin who has switched from his song "Double J" to "Fever" successfully are quite busily performing. Also, the rumored fast succession of lead vocal, Kang Sung Hoon's second album, if the rumors are true, will be released soon. And now with J-Walk, these four teams will maybe cross paths. The only member who has no news of resuming as a singer is Ko Ji Yong. He is still working and practicing his acting skills and there were even rumors that he would star in SBS's drama "Cool" (which did not turn out).
Since last March, in a time period that has not even fully been a year, we have seen the breakups and comebacks of "boy bands" six times already and so we are used to scenes like this. However, in J-Walk's instance, the news is still so subtle and shock, even as the seventh comeback. This has been the first case where members of an IDOL group have come back after setting up a company for themselves where they can depend on. However, it will be a difficult task for these members to have the same power they had in the past. We can only stand by and watch.
P.S. This May, SechsKies fans are preparing to hold an event, comemorating the 5 year anniversary of their debut. Their fans' support and cheers have caused their comeback, however, SechsKies' influence and peak of their popularity have been steadily falling back. (This was translated, not my opinion)
P.P.S. SechsKies' member, Lee Jae Jin, has released his plans for his next album, saying that he wishes to be respected as a real musician. Therefore, he will not dance at all during his second album.
god, Finkl, and much more! Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
The "Chingoo" cast has come together to make a movie once again! It is based on a true story, kind of like Hollywood's movie "Ali" which starred Will Smith, about a Korean boxer in the 80's named Kim Deuk Goo. The main role is played by Yoo Oh Sung, where many of the scenes have been shot in Las Vegas, Nevada! One could see Jang Dong Gun there also, but only to cheer on his friend, not as an officially cast member. They had over 10,000 extras in Las Vegas as they shot the infamous boxing match of '82 where he was defeated by another boxer. THe movie is called "Champion" and is directed by "Chingoo"'s director, Park Kyung Tae. Yoo Oh Sung is said to have exercised a lot to get more muscular for this movie, and he had learned how to box for the past 3~4 months. It is planning on being released at the end of June or early July.
god is going to North Korea! They will be performing their to promote the environmental campaign "The Green Earth". The god members expressed that they were glad to be going.
Followups:
Finkl's new music video "Young Won" has come out. The four members have played different, saddening roles in their new music video. Hyori as a boxer, Yuri as a sort of geisha, Juhyun as a flowershop owner, and Jin as a depressed alcoholic. WOW! Look out for it! It has a similar theme as SES's "U" video in that they are both about feminitity, but expressed in different ways.
The singers that MBC's Mok Pyo Dahl Sung To Yo Il has made, "Ack Dong Club" will finally debuted on MBC's "Music Camp" on the 16th of March with their song "Remember"! They have also shot their music video in Shanghai and there is a special kiss scene... o.O;;
Kim Jang Hoon CONCERT Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
Beginning this weekend, Kim Jang Hoon is have a concert tour. However, even though he is known for his unique concerts which never fail to interest people, there are two special stars who will appear: Park Kyung Rim and JoPD! This year, his theme is "Hoon in Wonderland" (like Alice in Wonderland). Park Kyung Rim is appearing as a solo singer this time, this being her first official stage appearance. She will perform her songs "Chak Gak ae Neup" and "Annyoung Appa"!
JoPD, on the other hand, taught Kim Jang Hoon to rap his song "My Style" while he took on the task of singing Kim Jang Hoon's song with his vibrant voice. After this concert, Kim Jang Hoon is going to rest for two years, saying that "he wishes to go well" (while he's still popular, I guess). His fans will see him on the 16h and 17th in SuWon!
Japanese Actress Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
Shock of Shocks! There is a Japanese actress in Korea!
Her name is Yoo Min (real name: Hoeki Yuuko), who has come to Korea after being captivated by the Korean movie "August's Christmas". She starred in "Hotaru" in Japan and in many Japanese CF's.
She plays the role of a deaf girl in MBC's "Oori Drama". She constantly practices Korean sign language and acts only with her expressions. Her dedication and pure image have led to her popularity. And she has a secret: on her free time, she is constantly studying Korean. In her secret notebook, she has written down everyday slang Koreans use! ^^;;
When asked to speak Korean, her pronunciation is exact!
Another reason for her popularity is that she looks very Korean. She has the innocent pureness that many popular Korean actresses have and she has very fair skin.
She says that her personality is bright and cheerful, nice, and fun. Also, she says that the part of her body she has the most confidence in is her dimples, which are very natural. She did not have a personal talent to show, but she tried singing Korea's folk song, "Arirang" until she exploded in laughter. Later, she took out the interviewer and showed her true skills: basketball! With her swift, graceful movements, anybody could see that she is very athletic.
BoA in Japan! Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
It's been a while since BoA left for Japan. However, it is nice to know how well she is doing. Yesterday, in Japan, her first album was released, resulting in selling over 100,000 copies on her first day and also hitting first place! Her song is "Listen to My Heart" and she even beat top star Amoro Namie! After about 14 singles, she has been constantly earning popularity and selling more and more singles. Even with her single "Every Heart", she sold 500,000 copies! AVEX, the company BoA is enlisted with in Japan, has a goal to make her Japan's top star. They are 100% confident that she will achieve this goal.
BoA was taken outside onto the streets of Japan for her interview. It had been the first time that she had been able to enjoy herself in Japan since she arrived there, never really having been able to see her popularity for herself till this day. Many spectators recognized her and were busily taking pictures (Japanese people carry around cameras with them everywhere saying that "we don't know who we'll see").
The interviewer asked what she wanted to do the most. Of course, as a teen, she wished to take a sticker photo because it had been something she had not been able to do for a while. While she was taking her photos, there had been a fan waiting outside, calmly and quietly asked her to sign her picture.
When asked what style of guys she liked, she responded that she wanted a comfortable, kind, "awesome" guy who was dedicated also to his work.
Something that is popular in Japan right now, is a type of snack which looks like Korea's ho bbang. She wished to have some, because of course, she also likes these delicacies. As the interview continued, spectators began to circle around, however at a nice distance so that neither she nor the staff would feel overcrowded. There weren't any noisy fans around who were screaming at her for her autograph, but they remained quiet throughout the whole interview.
She said that the thing that was different in Korea and Japan as a singer was that in Japan, it is required that a singer must sing live. At first, she said it was hard for her to sing live and dance her complicated dances, so she had to get more athletic and fit.
When asked how she saw herself ten years later, she replied, she wished that she could sing and dance very well and that she still remained a hard-worker.
Acting Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
Even the best actors say that crying scenes are the hardest and comical scenes aren't to be looked down on as well. And so, we look at these two opposing acting skills.
SES's Eugene had a part in Yoo Young Jin's video, "Ji Ae", counterparting Kangta. The staff at first was worried about a particular crying scene... would she be able to cry? However, it turns out that she cried so sorrowfully that even after the OK cut, she could not stop crying. It took a while to calm her down.
Now, NG's!!! Most NG's in comical acting appears because of laughter. However, what about from crying? The answer: it's hard to get your emotions into that mode -- depending on the scene, the types of crying is different. You cry sorrowfully, because your hurt, or because you're happy, sending away a lover, or because you think you don't deserve a punishment, out of anger. Depending on cirumstances, the feel you must get changes.
Also, NG's occur because of what's happening in the surroundings. If there is a scene where you're crying while holding a dog, if the dog moves or squirms.. NG! However, many actors say that most of the NG's come from kohs mool.
Sometimes, the cold gets in the way. In Koyotae's music video, "Why" (a sad ballad), actress Jo Mi Sook had to cry in a sleeveless, short one-piece dress next to the sea.. in the middle of winter! Even while she was shaking from cold, she still kept acting until she was satisfied with her appearance on the monitor. However, in the same video, she had to cry in the rain. She ended up staying there for three hours until she and the director were both satisfied.
Confessions Posted March 14, 2002 by Chrissy
When stars are confronted about scandals, everyone has a different approach to them. Some deny but many, especially now, confess the truth. Let's look at some of the reactions stars took:
god's Park Joon Hyung & talent Han Go Eun -- This scandal which almost led to the break up of god, was confronted confidently; it revealed the truth and JoonHyung's real age.
Joo Young Hoon -- He gave a shock when he confessed to the public about his suicidal attempts. However, because of this, the truth of the love triangle came out into the open and Shin Hyun Joon and Son Tae Young's relationship was revealed. Without it, maybe Shin Hyun Joon would never have starred in so many music videos with his girlfriend, maybe he would never have done the narration to a specific song.
Singer Lee Seung Hwan and talent Chae Rim confessed their love, and got over the hardships of such a wide age span.
Bae Doo Na and Shin Ha Gyun came together from the role they played opposite each other in a movie. They rely on each other and are confident of their relationship, ignoring talk and the examining eyes of peers and the media.
Cool's lead vocal Lee Jae Hoon and talent Kim Gyoo Ri -- There were many rumors between the two. When things got quiet, there were even rumors that they had separated. However, in the music video "Aloha", you can see these two lovers express their affection towards each other.
Actor Lee Jung Jae's girlfriend of 7 years came out in the open during a music video shooting. She turned out to be Chae Yun Hee, a Miss Korea finalist many years ago.
The latest example is Ryu Shi Won and Suh Ji Young from S#arp. Their relationship came out when they were spotted on their vacation together in Guam. A witness revealed their sightings to the media and news. When their scandal broke out in newspapers, they did not respond. However, as the scandal moved over to TV and other forms of media, they confessed openly and Ryu Shi Won even confessed on his official homepage.
It seems that as time flows by, many stars are beginning to confess their relationships. It seems that before, even a year before, stars only confessed when they were to be married or if they were engaged. Now, with the confidence and the ability to freely and confidently express opinions and their voices, it seems that stars will now begin to confess before scandals break out to make a more honest society out of the Korean media.
MUSIC VIDEO Posted March 12, 2002 by Chrissy
Miniseries "Piano"'s lead roles have been cast to shoot a music video in Christown, New Zealand for Position's 5th album title song "Sang Shil". Go Soo plays a slightly weaker character in this video, but his part still consists of an action scene. Kim Haneul and Go Soo play the role as lovers once more. However, it is harder to act without a script and just with expressions. The action scene takes place on the beach at night, as these two lovers are having a walk. Men (hired as extras in New Zealand) come and fight GoSoo and eventually Kim Haneul gets killed.
Kim HaNeul has changed her style for this video also. She wears a reggae hairstyle with a hip hop style. She has also taken horseback riding lessons for the past month for this role, but her horse in a certain scene would not listen to her, making it a bit risky and dangerous. Her birthday also fell within the dates of the shooting and so GoSoo provided a special surprise for her. They eventually threw her into the ocean water and threw pie in her face. ^^;;
Jo Jae Hyun, the last lead role, arrived late due to some other schedule he had. His role is as Kim Haneul's husband. He says that this is his first time being cast in a music video, but he did not fall back on showing his skills in emotional acting.
Celebrity Law Firm Posted March 12, 2002 by Chrissy
With the new age of oncoming popularity of the Korean entertainment industry in China and Taiwan, a new law firm has been open, dedicated only to this industry. Many celebrities and entertainment company representatives showed up on this day, regardless of whether they were old or new celebrities even. Some who showed up include Kim Chang Ryul from DJ DOC, Jo Young Nahm, Shin Chul, Seo Sae Won, movie/music video directors, etc. One of the lawyers said that it is because this industry is not only marketing in Korea any longer, so they must set up precautions and such. When Park Jin Young was asked on his opinion, he answered, "Sometimes, it'll be a help to us, sometimes it will be bothersome. It all depends on how well we use or how much we abuse the system". Now, this law firm will also protect things like image and marketing.
Finkl Comeback! Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
Finkl has come back with their fourth album and a new image. It has been 8 months since their last release and when they reached the performance "hall", they watched SES rehearse. However, these two rivalry groups are actually friends. Sung Yuri and Eugene share the same birthday, and so they are close to each other. The members are close to each other depending on how much they match. Hyori is close with Eugene, Joo Hyun with Eugene and Bada, Yuri with Shoo, etc.
Finkl, who has many male fans, is showing a more "rough" style, more "forced" and strong. They have all sophisticated in their looks and styles, and this time are presenting a stronger impression and image.
During the photo shoot for their album cover jacket, they took shots depending on what poses fit them the best whether it be as a woman or with a sexy image.
Their looks are not the only factors which have changed either. Their music style has also changed drastically. Formerly, Ok Ju Hyun sang the particularly hard vocal parts. However, in this album, all four of the members share all the roles, regardless of who gets the hard or easier vocals. [For those of you who have noticed certain patterns in singing order, it has come to and end because it is now mixed.]
Their releasal date was also Sung Yuri's birthday. It is the first fan meeting they have had in the past 8 months, and they had not expected so many people but as much as 3000 people showed up. It is a enjoyable start for them and now, for the first time since their debut, they are holding activities around the same time as SES!
Jang Nara CF Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
Jang Nara, in her 20's is currently shooting many CF's. However, this time, she received the part as a cute young girl for an ice cream CF picture. She received this part because of her cute, sweet smile and her image, "which is like ice cream" someone pointed out. Jang Nara had always practiced hard on her expression {acting}, and now it comes out naturally to her. Another picture had a mischevous component. She had pictures taken as her mouth area was covered with ice cream, like a child, and it is hard not to think that it does not go with her. When asked who she would want to eat ice cream with, she answered "I would like to eat ice cream with an angel". ^^ The reporter (singer Kang Oo Seung) ended up also taking pictures with her for this photo shoot.
Image Changers Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
Stars are often changing their image and presenting themselves to their fans with a new fresh idea and style. It is often the case that when stars rest for a time being, their style and such all change. Here are the many examples.
Singer Shin Seung Hoon, when he returned with his latest album, was asked if he had plastic surgery or not due to the different atmosphere he had.
Talent Choi Jin Shil (also older sister of singer Sky/Choi Jin Young) is different now from her debut years. She is a lot more sophisticated and her sophistication and loveliness peaked at her wedding.
Talent/Actress/Model Go So Young doesn't seem to have much of a difference. Some people even think that she may have been prettier during her debut years.
Actress/Talent Lee Mi Yun presented a clean, innocent yet sophisticated image after her marriage. However, after her divorce from her ex-husband Kim Seung Woo, she presented herself in an even more sophisticated manner, especially with her lead role in "Myung Sung Wang Hoo."
Former Actress Shim Eun Ha is one of the Cinderellas in the entertainment world, presenting herself with her femininity and such. However, when talk about her marriage came and went by, eventually concluding with her not marrying, she gave another impression on people. It was one of the rare times she was seen without makeup on and with dark expressions.
Talent/Actress/Model Kim Hee Sun has always expressed her cute and outgoing-ness.
Talent/Actress Choi JiWoo used to stress her eyes with her makeup when she was chosen as the person who looked the most like a certain celebrity.
Talent Park Chul with his large weight had presented a comfortable feeling. However, he has now returned to his former, younger self, playing those many innocent roles.
Entertainer (Singer, Actor, etc.) Im Chang Jung was constantly asked about his skin condition, seeing that it got better as time went by. However, his answer was no. His skin only seemed bad because of his acne problem.
Talent/Actor Won Bin debuted with long flowing hair, like a character in an old pure japanese anime.
Singer KangTa, when asked about his debut self, answered "Wow, I used to be so 'country' [sorry for the translation]! I've 'improved' drastically!"
The celebrity who comes into your mind most, who has sophisticated so much since the debut is Finkl's Ok Ju Hyun.
Also, Finkl's Sung Yuri has changed, giving a more sophisticated impression with her cheek "fat" leaving.
Talent Chae Rim in her debut years used the name Park Chae Rim. As time went by, many people began to express their desires to look like her.
However, there are instances when the changes come through hard or difficult times. And usually, it appears in the face. Talent Oh Hyun Soo, Singer Baek Ji Young, Talent Lee Tae Rahn are such examples.
Composer/Talent/Singer Joo Young Hoon also changed when he lost 10 kg. Many people asked him if he received plastic surgery, but of course, his answer was no.
Also, the many stars who came out of beauty pageants/contests like Miss Korea and such have also changed including Hwang In Young, Lee Yoo Jin, and Kim SunAh. Son Tae Young, however, also one who came out of such beauty pageants, admitted to her having plastic surgery with confidence. Also, another example of presenting her honesty was talent/actress Kim Nahm Joo.
When asking a plastic surgeon, he said that probably 10% of celebrities got their whole face remade with plastic surgery and about 80% of celebrities having gotten plastic surgery on only a specific part that they were lacking. Out of this 80%, however, the surgeon said that probably 60% were on the eyes, 20% on the nose, and the ermaing 20% on other parts of the body. A foreign example would be Michael Jackson.
Bang Song In, Park Kyung Rim also was under suspicion of having gotten surgery because she was getting prettier and prettier. However, these were false assumptions -- many now say that she got a "camera massage (some celebrities become prettier/more handsome when presented in front of a camera time after time). She stated that "I believe that true beauty lies within the natural flow of life, with natural aging". She has taken in that time goes by.
SCANDAL! Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
S#arp's Su JiYoung and talent Ryu Shi Won had a series of scandal articles just recently. They were spotted having a date in Guam which started on February 26th. There were many witnesses throughout the trip: some had seen them have dinner with another celebrity married couple, some had seen them on their dates embracing each other, and others had heard their names called in the airport when they were late for their flight. However, neither side seems to deny this. Ryu Shi Won personally adressed a message online to his fans and to his new girlfriend, confessing the relationship and ending with the words "Jiyoung ah... I'm nervous", saying that their love was pure. Also, Suh JiYoung's mother answered, expressing her fondness of Ryu Shi Won. Even with their large age gap, she seems to express no concern towards it, but just seems happy about this new-found couple.
Another Drug Abuse Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
Former '94 Miss Korea and Talent Sung Hyun Ah has been arrested earlier today in Korea for abusing the drug ecstacy. Her and a few other celebrity friends of hers were caught mixing ecstacy into their drinks, this past October being their first time a nightclub in some hotel. Nobody is sure what is to become of her, whether or not she will go into immediate help. Her words to the press were "It happened on a one-time mistake... I'm very sorry". She is thought to have done this because she panicked when less and less dramas and shows called to cast her. She is also known to have starred in a drama with Hwang Soo Jung, also another talent who was arrested for drugs late last year. Many of her friends including models were also arrested but two are seemingly still being searched out for.
Ok Eu Tee Posted March 7, 2002 by Chrissy
Ok Eu Ee Tee! These are special, interesting yet weird scenes in movies and such that do not belong there. It has become popular on the internet and so we look into a few of them:
In Lord of the Rings, as Gandolph worries about the ring, there is a cup near him which disappears and reappears in the next scene.
MATRIX - During Keanu Reeves' infamous part as he flips backward to avoid the bullets, the corpses what were lain out around the floor and no longer there just for that scene. However, in the next scene, they are seen again.
In a French film called TAXI 2, the car has fog on its window, however when the airbag goes, the fog is instantly cleared and you can clearly see through the car windows.
In FIFTEEN MINUTES, you can see the male character walking back and forth with a bandage around his hand. However, the bandage is loose in one seen, tightly and neatly wound up in the next, then loose again in the next scene!
Jo Pok Ma Nu Ra... Shin Eun Kyung has a wound on her left hand, having bandaged it up. However, in the following scene when she visits her sister in the hospital, the bandage is now on her right hand.
Yub Gi Juk In Geu Nyuh - The scene at the amusement park with the escaped army man holding his gun. At first, his gun is quite small... almost jokingly small like a toy gun. However, when he comes outside, threatening to kill Cha Tae Hyun, his gun has increased in size and style drastically.
Also, in the same movie, when Cha Tae Hyun is writing the letter to Jun Ji Hyun, the stationary is a peach-ish color. However, when she reads it, the color is now red.
In Shi Wuhl Ae, Jun Ji Hyun's headphones as she rides her bike are quite large and blue. However, when she lets her friend listen to it, the headphones are now just simple small black earpieces.
In CAST AWAY, the man in wearing sandals at first, but when the storm hits and he rushes into the cave, his shoes are now tennis shoes!
In GLADIATOR, when Maximus (Russell Crowe) goes to check up on his men and horses, if you look under the arch of the horse (close up of Maximus and the horse), you can see a man wearing a pair of jeans.
In MATRIX when Keanu Reeves grabs the doorknob, but hestitates to open it, in the doorknob, you can see the reflection of the camera and the cameraman when in fact, Keanu Reeves should be standing there alone.
Chingoo - It takes place in '76 in Pusan. However, during the running/chasing scene... a 20-story apartment?
Doo Sah Boo Il Chae - Jung Jun Ho is supposed to be in Kang Nam, however, if you look closely at the street signs, you see the sign reads Kyung Hee.
In the movie "Killer deul ae Soo Dah", one of the men (Jung Joon Ho?_ is supposed to be a left-hander, as the girl points out earlier on in the movie. However, during the fencing scene, he is using his right hand and he lies on the floor with the foil in his right hand.
In HARU - The baby's name cad reads the age and citizenship number. However, later on, on the form given to them by the nurse to sign and look at, the citizenship number has changed, stating that the baby was born many years earlier.
Last but not least PEARL HARBOR, the scene when the plane falls into the sea. When the plane falls, it is quite sunny outside, however, when the pilot resurfaces, it is now nighttime.
FOLLOWUP NEWS:
Kangta, talent Yoon Dah Hoon, and Finkl's Ok Ju Hyun have received the awards for being role model celebrities.
Collection of News Flashes Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
JTL's Jang Woo Hyuk has opened up his own business! Many came to congratulate him, including Shin Seung Hun and many other welcoming faces.
The Korean government is no longer able to prevent Yoo Seung Jun from entering the country because he is not officially an American citizen and therefore, they have lost the power of preventing his return into Korea. Some people are expecting him to release another album, but it seems that this will prove to be a difficult task with the anti-YSJ atmosphere which has been going around.
OLD NEWS

Jang Nara ACTING! Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
SBS Drama, "Myung Rang So Nyuh Sung Gong Gi" is starring Jang Nara and Jang Hyuk! It is the first time that Jang NaRa has officially been casted on a drama before, showing that many acknowledged her acting skills. However, her role uses a sah-too-ri, which at first seemed hard to get down correctly, but she safely passed by, her being her father's daughter (her father is a talent also.. and she majors in acting). Her role is as a sweet, innocent girl who strives to live. Her name is Yang Soon and the role comes as her parents are selling her to a rich family because they don't have any money. Jo Hyang Gi plays the role as her father, but he in reality just adores Jang Nara! Jang Hyuk comes in as the prince-charming to protect Jang Nara, riding a red sports car. During the scene, Jang Hyuk threw his whole body into acting, which resulted in an injury. It is the first time he has acted since his last movie, Hwa San Go. As soon as the scenes were shot, they directly went into shooting the posters. Being it the first day these two had actually met, it was at first awkward, but everything came down as Jang Nara smiled, making the atmosphere "hwa gi ae ae". It is the first time these two have met each other but they both said that they were fans of the other. Jang Nara couldn't hide this as she stared at Jang Hyuk for a while, thinking "is this really him or is this a dream"? hehe... When asked about her ideal guy, she just simply said that she used to be a member in IDOL's Choi Hyuk Joon's fanclub!
Actors as Singers Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
Bobo, a.k.a. Kang Sung Yun, just debuted not too long ago, changing from a talent to a singer, showing off her skills as a major in voice. She stubbornly only does live stages so that she may be given respect as a singer. However, she's not only good at ballads, but she able to sing many different genres of music; she sings full of energy! She says that she sings and dances in secluded places such as noraebangs and nightclubs so she may extract all her talents.
When actors or actresses are asked to sing during an interview, they choose trot's or songs from the 80's which are always upbeat and that they enjoy singing. During fan meetings, non-singer stars ALWAYS sing even if they really don't have the talent to. That includes Park Kyung Lim (who released an album just recently!), Chae Rim, Jang Dong Gun (showing his capabilities and abilities of being a former gasoo), announcer Jo Young Goo (on a TV show), Lee Sang In, Jun Wun Joo, and comedian Yoon Jung Soo (who appeared onstage with CAN and COOL, always showing his love arrows).
Kim Han Suk just overexaggerates with his rigorous body movements to make up for his singing. Lee Hyuk Jae said that in order to sing well on TV, you must know the special point of the gasoo, and sing the song deliciously. Kim Bo Sung, Lee Hyuk Jae, Nam Hee Suk, Keul Nom all have done paries of singers as Elvis Presley, Andre Kim, a trot star and Clon just to name a few. Another surprise! Comedian group Keul Nom has receieved a song from composer Joo Young Hoon and they are planning to perform on stage this summer! Ji Sang Ryul, member of Keul Nom, is known for his great abilities in immitating other singers' singing styles/voices.
No Hyun Hee had always shown herself as overexaggerating movements and being outgoing, but also showing her talents in singing. This earned her a great role in a musical, showing that critics respect and acknowledge her talents! She not only sang but danced but she jokingly stated that the problem now is that she is afraid to go on some shows because of the expectations that have become part of her.
However, one important factor to see is that these non-gasoo celebrities are doing this all as a own "talent" but everything is LIVE! LIVE! LIVE! while singers are still caught up in lip-syncing. There is a saying "Live to live" (prunciation: la-ee-veu 2 li-veu")
SES & Finkl's return! Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
Finkl has returned with the scent of feminitiy. Yuri has changed her look drastically by cutting her hair short, styling it in the very popular baram muhri (wind hairstyle), similar to the one that Song Hye Gyo currently is "wearing". It has been quite some time since their last appearance with a new album. They had always been upset that they could not put in their full energy into their albums before, because as soon as one album ended, the next one had to come out in a matter of only a few months. However, with their long rest, they have come out with an album they are proud of.
SES has also come out a little prior with their album and title song "U". It has an American Pop (Euro Pop) sort of style and their music video is none like any other they had shot. Before, they had shot videos which depicted them as cute, pretty or innocent. However, in this video, they are all confident working women. Eugene is something like a marketing specialist, Shoo is a card dealer, and Bada is a camera director. However, they show their confidence against the ignorance of some men.
Eugene, after the shot of her angrily pounding the table for the sleeping man during her presentation, steps in wearing a red one piece with short black hair, holding an angry bull dog. It is a dark, underground place where their is a man (the one who was dozing off) chained up, going crazy. She releases the dog and she watches as she wins.
Shoo is tending to a came of poker, as she wonderfully masters card tricks herself. However, the men are laughing and blowing smoke into her face. She however, shows them as she wins the game of poker. The next shot is her on a mechanical rodeo buck, wearing a cowgirl outfit. She dismantles and slightly taps (hits) the head of the horse, the man who lost to her after blowing smoke in her face.
Bada, the oldest, is last. She is filming an action movie, but she is looked down upon. So, she is followed by a scene of her kicking the director in a sort of Matrix style, sending him flying across the top of the building.
Both groups have something in common. They both show their feminity more than ever, and their confidence. The two friends have come out around the same time, and they intend to show both these concepts, getting away from their former images of innocence and "cuteness". Also, Shoo had been called back to Japan for an encore of the musical she starred in.
god's last stage! Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
A week ago, last Sunday, was god's final stage performance! They performed three songs live on SBS's Inki Gayo and read their letters of thanks to their fans. However, many fans could not get into the building because of their great "population", which shocked the god members. So many of them rested out in the streets, just hoping to catch a single note. BUT! god had a surprise in store for them! They were planning on holding a Geurilla Concert of their own, just as a special treat to their fans! Since their debut four years ago, this is the first time that the god members thought of an idea for their fans themselves; they had planned this event many days before. Nobody, not even the reporters or media knew about this event until it was announce as they exited the building. Many fans were shocked, but they wasted no time to rush over to the location.
This mini-concert was held at a small field of an elementary school. The god members wished to surprise their fans even to the very end, and so they entered very difficultly through an open crack of the wire fence in the back of the school. This stage was even more passionate than ever!
Perhaps god is loved os much becaues of their honesty and their ability to make people feel comfortable and to make themselves feel comfortable in front of their fans. Each of the members said "I Love You" to their fans in their own special ways. Danny did so, starting off by saying that he doesn't say these words much. Kyesang screeched "I Love You" while overexaggeratingly making a heart with his hands over his head. Hoyoung said these words in Korean, then proceeding on giving his fans a "juhl" (bow, but towards on the ground), ending with "ae gyo". TaeWoo said "I Love You" in a very "erotic" way. JoonHyung shot his fans the arrows of love cutely as he shouted these words. However, all good things must come to an end. At the end of the event, Danny remained as the other members slowly walked down from the small stage which had been set up. His last words were "baram pi ooh myun jook uh, jin jja!" (if you cheat on us, you're in trouble!) as he skittered away, down the stairs, leaving some fans in tears.
Stars' Bodies! Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
Stars and their body... it's a marketing plan. Many stars are regarded for their body. Kim Hee Sun and Go So Young for their neck line, Cha Seung Won for his neckline and broad shoulders, Song Seung Hun for the body he made through excercise, Shinhwa's Kim Dong Wan for his muscular chest, Kim Hae Soo and Harisu for their chests, model Lee Sora for her legs and waist, and Lee Hae Young for her legs.
Much is required out of being a star. Every star, even though they may be sleep-deprived, have to get at least two hours in of excercise time! One star said that the job of being a celebrity is a career of showing people. Some stars who were known for their bodies as newbies include Jung Yang, Han Go Eun, Hwang In Young... Jun Ji Hyun started off from a cute, outgoing image to a sexy techno CF star! Shinhwa, through years of hard workouts, is no longer an idol star but have risen as masculine stars, comparable to their debut days. Park Chul used to be "cushiony", however, with the diet he had, he got to get those parts of leading male roles. Harisu stated that she "did everything that was said to be good for the body. However, with acting and such, if your body is ruined, it is hard to turn it back to the way you had it. It is hard to get your body so nice, however, it is quite easy and fast to get it to ruin."
Kang Byun Gyoo, former baseball player, has a body which has allowed him to act as a model. His trademark has been masculinity and health.
In previous years, stars had plump bodies. However, as the movies and media required more onlook of bodies, the concept that you had to be thin came in. Now, celebrities show more parts of their body than before, mostly shoulders and thighs.
However, it is an age of individuality! Stars Kim Min Hee, Park Jin Young, Bae Yong Jun and Song Hye Gyo are the results. Their bodies may not be comparable to those of models, however, they have bodies that are regarded as being beautiful in their own unique way. Now, perfection isn't the requirement, but a body full of their own kye sung! The era of kyesung (individuality, own style) had started many years ago, but now, it is the start of the era of kyesung in bodies.
"Management in Action!" Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
What goes on behind the stars? Managers are always behind the stars, supporting them, making them famous. They throw their bodies in front of cameras and reporters, in order to protect their star. As a big star, many interviews cannot take place. At a fan meeting, many reporters were outside, blocked from entrance by the managers. Only a reporter from the newspaper was admitted entrance. Even just a few years ago, managers were thought to be prosperous on how many interviews he/she could get. However, it is not the case anymore. When a scandal breaks out, the reactions vary even more. They stop the questions at whatever cost, even if it is during an interview, waving their arms in front of the camera to make the shot useless. They also push, yell at, hit or block the camera with their whole body. On manager said that he does understand as a viewer that many fans are curious, however, he also said that it is not a good thing to show. However, newbies are different! They follow the camera around and do whatever is asked of them. How will they be in a few years from now, when they have risen to the top of stardom?
Kim Dong Sung's Surprise Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
Korea's short-track star, Kim Dong Sung has returned to Korea, surprised to see so many of his fans! The airport was crowded on his arrival, and he could not hide his shock. His previous scandal with Ha Ji Won had only been from the result of a photo album he had shot with Ha Ji Won.
Kim Soo Chul! Divorce! Posted March 3, 2002 by Chrissy
Kim Soo Chul, a rock singer from back in the day, is in the progress of getting a divorce after being married to his wife for 10 years. He says that his wife just left home and sent him divorce papers. His wife did not allow him to see his daughters, even on the holidays, which he exclaimed while sobbing. He stated that his wife had wasted his money and stole it before she ran. However, her story is different. She said, "If I had, then wouldn't he have reported me? It wouldn't have been me reporting him?" He also stated that the relationship between his parents and his wife never was good. However, she said that they did not have a problem because his parents were so kind to her. Before departing from the interview, Kim Soo Chul left with the last few words, "our trust has been broken."
