1TYM, Their First Commercial Shot
(23/08/2000)
"Hip Hop
Warriors", 1TYM have signed a contract for 6 months to appear in a
Lotte's Pepero commercial. Considering it is their first ever appearance
in a commercial the amount of money ( one billion won ) , it is considered
to be a lot of money. The group have received a lot of offers before from
other companies but have rejected these offers thinking it would have some
side effect in their musical career. 1TYM gains a lot of support from the
Hip Hop Manias. Their sophomore album released in May this year has put
two singles, "One Love"and "KwehJiNa ChingChing NaNeh",
on the top of the pop charts. In order to prepare their upcoming album
they say that they'll be meeting the fans through commercials. They're
going to console the fans by showing their best through the commercials.

Korean Music Just One Step Behind
In Entering The Billboard Charts (23/08/2000)
There is a "green light" that a korean gayo will be entering the
Billboard Charts. The album 'Danny', released in the States by a Korean
immigrant saxophonist Danny Jung (24) is the one with a lot of potential.
This album which includes the hit single sung by Lee Sora "Nan
Haengbokheh (I'm Happy)" and a CBS Soap theme music
"Reflection", has received a five-star merit from "Amazon.com"
in the album reviews section. When a top class act receives a four-star
merit, it is considered to be 'successful'. The performance on Jung's
album is way beyond imagination. It is produced by Sam Perkin, who has
formerly produced Dionne Warwick albums. Jung has also collaborated with
the session people who have worked with Eric Clapton and Chick Corea. It
therefore receives a lot of credits musically. Especially the man who has
put Tupac on the throne of Hip Hop, Serge Knight shows al lot of interest
in Jung and his music. So it has a lot potential to enter into the
categories of Adult Contemporary and Crossover singles in the next month.
G.O.D. Opens Official Fan Club
(23/08/2000)
In a form of a
concert, the group g.o.d. have opened up their official fan club on 18th
at the Olympic Park in the Fencing Tournament Gymnasium. There was
approximately 5800 fans from all over Korea. The group announced that they
would never let the fans down. They also said that they will always do
their best to give something back to their fans for their support. That
evening the group have sung all their hits "To my mother",
"KwanChal (Exploration)", " Friday Night" and others.
They've also shown off all their personal talents. They've also shown some
unrevealed scenes from "g.o.d.'s Baby Diary". Also there were a
lot of events that amused the fans. On the other hand, their management
colleague, Jang Hyuk, made an appearance.
Shin SeungHun 'Back To The
Future' (08/17/2000)
'Ballade Emperor' Shin SeungHun is preparing a very special concert on the
20th. It's been 10 years since Shin SeungHun has entered the Gayo World.
Under the title named 'Back To The Future' he is preparing a huge concert
at Olympic Park on the 88Jandimadang, which Sting and Carlos Santana held
their concerts. Shin says," This concert will be bigger and better
than a Pink Floyd concert". "I often had to hold my breath. I
was totally amazed by the fact that I will be hosting this immense
concert. This will be a great chance for the music industry to get to know
a new kind of concert." There are a lot of good reasons why Shin
praises his concert so much. The size and the expense of the concert. The
whole entire concert cost 10 billion won. Regularly a concert costs 2
billion won. So there's an expectation of lots to see. And it's also the
very first concert sponsored by IStar Inc. So there was a lot of
greediness from the sponsor. There will be a stage which it's going to be
the longest ever made in history. (Sorry I can't give you the figures
because I don't know how to convert them into the metric system.) Also
there will be two big screens, which are going to be used at the opening
ceremony of the World Cup 2002, placed at each side of the stage. There
will be a lift stage and an enormous staircase set up for the concert.
During the concert there will be a flying saucer floating above the stage.
There will also be a laser show. The sound effects and the lights will
decorate the show. Shin has invited guests such as, Kim MinJong, Kim
HyunJung, Ryu SiWon, Paek JiYoung, Bany V.O.X., Chakra, Uhm JungHwa, Lee
JungHyun, Fin.K.L., "J", and approximately 150 guests to
watch the show. (02-3444-9500)
H.O.T. Filling Up Their Upcoming
Album With Their Own Songs (08/17/2000)
The Pop Group H.O.T. will transform themselves to become
singer-songwriters. With the aim to release their upcoming album in
September H.O.T. has decided to write all the songs that will be included
in the album on their own. H.O.T. has written some songs from their
sophomore album onwards but the cover song was written by Yu YoungJin. So
it wasn't suitable to name the group as singer-songwriters. But from this
album onwards the situation is different. Yu YoungJin has announced that
he will only be producing the album and moreover the members of the group
have shown great interest in contributing their own songs to their album.
Along with the concert on the 15th next month and the delayed release of
their new album each member of the group has written 4~5 songs. It seems
that there would be no problem in releasing an album. But thy haven't come
up with an agreement for the cover song. Because of this reason Yu has
asked the members to rewrite the songs and the members have all returned
to the studio. But this time H.O.T. doesn't want any help from outside
forces. " We all talk about making an album on our own. So we don't
care if we have to work all through the night. Just wait and see. We'll do
it!"
S.E.S. Releases In Japan Their
First Video Clips Music Video (08/17/2000)
S.E.S., currently in Japan, will release their first music video. Under
the theme 'S.E.S. Video Clips' they will be releasing it on the 23rd.
S.E.S. are the first Korean artists to release a music video in Japan. In
this sense there is a big significance of this music video. Like as in
Korea the music videos don't make enough profit in Japan in comparison to
the CDs. So because of this reason the Japanese singers don't release a
music video unless they're absolutely popular. So in Japan if a singer
releases a music video they're considered to be a popular star. This S.E.S.
music video is released because of the fact that five of their songs have
been in the Oricon Charts, the Japanese pop music chart. Followed by an
interview such songs as "T O P", "Sign Of Love",
"Itsumademo UnJekajina", "Meguri Au Sekai" are
included in this music video.
Park JiYoon, Concealed Sadness
(08/17/2000)
"What am I to do?" Park JiYoon is in a serious dilemma. The
concept for her current album "SungIn Shik" made during the
eight months in which recorded the album has got to be changed. Park has
displayed the naive lady like image. She has prepared herself to show her
fan her sexy image. Considering her cover song "SungIn Shik" she
wanted to emphasise on the fact that she's a 'real lady'. She has cut her
long hair and prepared to reveal her body parts. Also as a part of the
choreography she was about to shake a lot of the hips and waist in order
to please the eyes of he male fans. But because of the restrictions set
out by Park JiWon, Minister of Culture and Tourism, she had to give up a
lot of what she had in store for the fans. The TV stations have said 'NO'
to revealing body parts and inappropriate body movements. "I've
risked everything to come this far but now I have nothing to show. I think
that I should come in contact with the fans in a different way." But
because of the fact that her currently released album "SungIn Shik"
is receiving good comments she is somewhat relaxed about the whole
situation.
A Big Bang On The Gayo World
Because Of Seo Taiji's Appearance (08/17/2000)
'Is it Seo Taiji, H.O.T., or Jo SungMo?" Because of the announcement
of Seo Taiji's comeback, H.O.T. and Jo SungMo are in plan to 'destruct'
Seo Taiji. Jo SungMo, who is making his comeback appearance through SBS's
"KiBunJoun Bam" , says there won't be any changes made even if
Seo Taiji makes his appearance. But worrying that Jo wouldn't break the
biggest record selling record which was made by Seo Taiji (2.4 million)
because of 'Taiji's comeback' Jo is promoting a whole lot on this
album-his estimation is triple platinum. On the 16th daily newspaper Jo
had an advertisement featuring "Duki" Shin Jisu. He is going to
cause the 'Jo sungMo Trend' ever since from the beginning. Also to
substitute the seven billion won music video he's considering to film his
video "inland". H.O.T., who are releasing their upcoming album
in the middle of September, are going to reveal their plans around about
the 20th when Lee SuMan, the CEO of the company, returns. But among the
members, they came up with the conclusion that 'Seo Taiji's appearance'
wouldn't be a disadvantage to them at all. H.O.T. thinks that they will
still have "their audience" despite the appearance of Seo Taiji.
They think that this incident will bring the Gayo market reviving again.
Their original estimation, 1.2 million, was pushed up to 1.5million. The
Gayo specialists see this to revive the Gayo market as the three compete
in the upcoming month.
"Channel V Korea"
Making "J" A Worldwide Star (08/16/2000)
A Korean-American singer "J" will proceed this autumn with the

"J"'s 'upgrading'. Last June DoReMi Recordings have established
"Channel V Korea" with the worldwide known Star TV, which Rupert
Murdoch is the main stockholder, in a form of a joint incorporate and

Soul type voice and the fact that she carries the title of 1995 Miss
Washington had influences in the evaluation. Her cover song of her
sophomore album 'Uh-Jae-Chuh-Rum' has reached the top of all sorts of pop
music charts and her follow up song 'Time Out' is also receiving positive
reactions from her fans.

H.O.T. Received 2nd Place in the
Chinese Popularity Vote.(14/08/2000)
A pop group H.O.T. received the honour of 2nd place in a recent Chinese
Popularity Vote. Last month a Chinese teen magazine "Dangdae Gadan"
hosted a survey called " Our Favourite Star". The group received
17thousand 488points and placed themselves right behind the winner Sa
JungBong, who got 31thousand 376points. H.O.T.'s placement exceeded the
Hong Kong pop stars such as Andy Lau(3rd), Jung Igon(6th), and Wang
Bi(9th). The magazine "Dangdae Gadan" was also very shocked at
the result. The criterion for this survey depended on the concerts held
early this year and the popularity of the chinese-released albums early
this year. And H.O.T. was the only group non-chinese.
Lee JungHyun, "Cute"
Character Reveals (14/08/2000)
Lee JungHyun's "Cute" character will be revealed. An animation
which she turns from a techno warrior into an Egytian goddess has been
developed. Lee Jung Hyun's current management Init Entertainment and
Inter Programme, which specialises these characters, created a character
for each of her released albums. For her debut album a space warrior and a
traditional korean woman, for her current sophomore album an Egytian
goddess and a peace messenger will be represented. A lot of accessories
were made using her body parts such as eyes as motives. These characters
will be used on T-Shirts, clocks and towels. Lee JungHyun's management
says that they want to bring Lee JungHyun more closer to the fans through
this character.
