Girl group 2NE1 has been revealed to be disbanding according to their management agency YG Entertainment.
Recently, the group’s management agency revealed:
“The contract with 2NE1 came to an end back in May of 2016. We have faced a situation where Minzy is no longer with YG Entertainment, and we have ultimately came to the decision of 2NE1’s official disbandment after a long discussion.
For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We could not express how upset and disappointed we are. But, we have determined that it will be too tough to continue promoting. We have decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1’s unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotion activities of the members.
We sincerely appreciate everyone who has loved 2NE1 and their music.
Back in May, YG Entertainment renewed the contract with CL and Dara. Unfortunately, we officially announce that Park Bom did not have the renewal.”
Since 2015, the group has been faced with numerous disbandment rumors, but YG denied the reports.
In April 2016, Minzy has been revealed to have officially left the group and was later revealed to have signed a contract with Music Works for her upcoming solo debut. CL and Dara have each pursued solo careers while Park Bom went on a hiatus following her drug scandal in 2010.
The group’s last performance together was during their surprise appearance at the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards.
