It's Rainism again. email to someone | printer friendly

It takes guts and sheer determination to alter your life trajectory, especially when you're at the top of the game. But that's exactly what Rain did. In November of 2007, Rain left his longtime nest JYP Entertainment and started his own company, J. Tune Entertainment. And now, after establishing worldwide fame through his much publicized 2007 world tour and Hollywood exposure in films like Speed Racer and the upcoming action flick Ninja Assasin, the multi-entertainer returns to home base to release his long-awaited fourth album poignantly titled Rainism. By adding "-ism" to his name, the title promotes a new ideology and concept that capture the essence of who he is and what he represents.

Taking full control of the album's entire production, Rain reveals his true colors through his own composition and choice of lyrics, in particular Love Story and September 12th. Composed and arranged by Choi Hyung Joon of V.O.S, Love Story is a pop R&B number that talks about the ugly side of love, surprisingly coming from the singer's own experience. In the song's music video which features actress Ha Ji Won, Rain extends his talent net by orchestrating the full storyline. Moreover, the star upgrades his dance moves by collaborating with world-famous choreographer AJ who previously worked with stars like Usher and Justin Timberlake.

Are You Ready to Rock again? email to someone | printer friendly

One of the rarest gems excavated by the K-pop industry in recent years, F.T Island returns with their much anticipated sophomore cut Colorful Sensibility, exerting more power and energy than ever. The popular quintet became a household name after Sarang al ee, their mid-tempo ballad from the debut album Cheerful Sensibility, hit the airwaves in 2007. The song became an instant smash, clinching the #1 spot on both online and offline charts, subsequently earning the group the year's Best New Artist award.

Heavily lathered in refreshing rock sounds, their latest album conveys the boys' many emotional phases. The album's principal track Sarang whoo ae (Track 1) is a powerful rock ballad that features the grandiose sound of a 60-person orchestra, as well as Lee Hong Ki's intoxicating vocals, which enhance the song's brooding atmosphere. Other highlights include the easy-listening number Yeoja neun mola ("Women Don't Know" - Track 2), written by Han saram man's composer Han Seung Hoon, and "Troublemaker" (Track 11), featuring lyrics reminiscent of a bubbly animation theme song.

Hottest Girl in Korea is Back. email to someone | printer friendly

If anyone deserves to have their own adjective, it's probably Lee Hyo Ri. Lee, who emerged as a Korean pop icon since turning solo in 2003, introduces "hyorish" to our urban dictionary through the release of her new album It's Hyorish. Bringing the cute-sexy concept back to the stage, Lee teams up with some of the best talents in the business, namely producers Park Geun Tae and Kim Do Hyun, along with music video director Cha Eun Tek, to present what is expected to be one of the best-selling albums of 2008. A staggering 60,000 pre-order copies were sold with ten days left before the official release, proving once again, the massive appeal she brings to Korean pop culture.
Composed by rising songwriter E-Tribe, the hip-hop dance number U-Go-Girl (Track 3) is one of the double principal tracks featured on the album. Highlighted by Lee's unique resonating voice, the song is dedicated to her female fans and features lyrics that loosely translate to "don't be shy, show yourself boldly". Injecting Euro dance rhythm into electronica sound, Hey Mr. Big (Track 10) is a trendy dance number featuring fellow singer Wheesung's lyrics, which include the words of advice, "be a real man, show heart and courage." Some big names also show their support for Lee by contributing their vocal and creative talents, namely Kim Gun Mo and Wheesung in Bbal gahn ja dong cha ("A Red Car" - Track 9) and Sexy Boy (Track 8), respectively.
