|
The Korean music trend is sweeping Asia. Early this year, Kim Hyun Jung has signed for Jackie Chan's production company, and becomes the first Korean pop singer who goes international. The twenty-three years old Kim Hyun Jung is also the first Korean pop singer interviewed by TIME Asia. Kim Hyun Jung was brought to this entertainment industry by pure chance. It came as easy as this: it was back when she was still a college student, spotted by an agent on the street and she became a superstar. Even to the agent's surprise, Kim is a ready-made pop star; her talent for music is, if not above, equal to her dazzling beauty. She can handle songs of all styles with ease for her possession of an astonishingly wide-ranged voice. Kim's debut made a splash right away. She glittered as the brightest new star in many award ceremonies. With only four albums, she won over 30 trophies and kept a record of selling more than fifty hundred thousand copies per release. Kim has worked on her dancing as well; her wild, bold and daring stage performances hypnotized many, which also made her the idol of young people in Korea. Her income rose with her fame, Kim made more than 5 billion Won (app. US $3,800,000) just for last year. Out of all the talented and unique artists in Korea, Jackie Chan recognized the light of an international star in Kim, not only for her excellent singing or dancing skills but also for her appearance: Kim is 173cm tall, nicknamed ¡¥Miss long legs'; Kim also speaks English and Japanese. Being spontaneous in style, talented in music, a multi-linguist with captivating images, she has all the ingredients for an international star. Kim's career superhighway has always been straight and smooth. However, she was seriously hurt in a car accident back in 1999. Fortunately, she recovered after a month's treatment in the hospital. The Korean music heat wave is coming first to Hong Kong later this year, with Kim's best songs compilation in Hong Kong version, which features songs previously covered by Hong Kong singers. Her debut Mandarin album is next. Kim would love to work with Hong Kong artists as well, especially when she finds a voice that is compatible with hers. |
