YG Entertainment has recently announced the departure of Minzy from 2NE1 and the group’s comeback plans.

On April 5, YG Entertainment reveals:

“This is YG Entertainment’s official statement with regards to the rumors of the disbandment of 2NE1.

We are sorry to announce this regrettable news to 2NE1 fans who have waited for a long time.

We are making an official announcement that 2NE1’s maknae Gong Minzy would no longer be a part of 2NE1.

YG Entertainment’s contract with 2NE1 would expire this May 5, 2016. Since last January, we have had individual face-to-face talks with each member with regards to renewing contracts and showed our desire for the group to reform. Unfortunately, Minzy expressed her intentions which were different from the group.

It is really difficult to say goodbye to a colleague who has been with us since she was a trainee for 11 years. However, we fully understand and respect Minzy’s position since the group had to suddenly halt promotions two years ago. It is true that we feel more sorry rather than feeling unsatisfied.

Following Minzy’s decision, the other members were confused and asked, ‘Will 2NE1 disband like this?’ Yang Hyun Suk met them and said, ‘I want to protect 2NE1 until the end no matter what. When it gets hard, let us gather together and be strong to overcome this.’

With this strong will, the remaining three members are preparing for a new song with a summer comeback in mind. We are not looking for a new member to replace Minzy.”
