Guitarist of rock band Royal Pirates James Lee talks about his injury on his left wrist and shoulder which delayed the group’s comeback.
He reveals, “I went to dinner at a restaurant in Seoul with a friend. I opened the door and looked for my friend who had arrived before me. The steel frame and glass wall crashed down on me. The glass fell on my head and the sharp frame crushed my left shoulder and wrist.”
James then lost consciousness and forced to have an eight-hour surgery to reconnect his wrist. The doctors revealed that he might always suffer from the pain of severed nerves and gave him the option of completely severing the wrist and using a prosthetic instead. However, James refused since he did not want to stop playing music. He has also received blood transfusions until the edema on his artery healed due to the heavy bleeding and the long surgery.
As pain and post-traumatic stress persisted and James was able to play the bass, their producer Jung Jae Yoon persuaded him to play the keyboard instead.
James revealed, “It is like a knife pressing on my skin. I can’t forget the nightmare of that day.”
His agency then revealed, “After the accident, the restaurant attempted to have an amicable discussion through a lawyer. However, how can you compensate for the future of a musician who knows nothing but music? We held back while we were not sure how his injury would affect his career, but now we will start with legal proceedings.”
