Mnet responds to criticisms from fans and YG Entertainment after it has excluded iKON off their charts despite that it was topped on the other charts.
On September 24, an official from Mnet explained that iKON’s debut song “My Type” was excluded from the charts due to inactivity. Mnet further reveals that their music chart “M! Countdown” is different from the other broadcast charts since it only targets on promoted tracks. Since iKON’s debut song “My Type” is not being promoted at the mean time, Mnet has decided to exclude it from their chart rankings.
To this, the fans became confused since “My Type” has topped the other charts since its release but it was not included in Mnet’s ranking list.
iKON’s management agency, YG Entertainment, has also expressed their suspicions on the issues since BIGBANG appeared on the charts despite not fully promoting the track. The agency compared it to iKON’s warm up single release who has remained on the top spot for six days successfully but was left out on the official chart ranking of the broadcast agency.
Mnet apologized for the confusion that the issue has caused and promised that they would focus their attention on improving their charts once again.
Meanwhile, Red Velvet’s “DUMB DUMB DUMB” took the trophy for last week on “M! Countdown” with the second place going to CNBLUE with “Cinderella” and Fly To The Sky’s “It Happens To Be That Way” on the third place.
