Girl group KARA has been rumored to be disbanding as the contract expiration of members with DSP Media is nearing.
On the online community Pann, a netizen posts, “Next year, KARA will enter their 9th year. Their contract is reaching near its end. Rumors going among fans is that Park Gyuri would be going to a film acting agency while Goo Hara would enter SM C&C. I do not know about Han Seungyeon, however there is talk that none of these three would renew their contract.”
The netizen also continues, “There is also a rumor that DSP would be doing something with Youngji and Somin, who previously withdrew from April.”
Previously, DSP Media has confirmed in October that the contracts of members Gyuri, Seungyeon and Hara with the management agency would be expiring at the end of the year. However, the renewal of contracts has not yet been confirmed.
The girl group debuted in 2007 as a four-member group, with its members Gyuri, Seungyeon, Nicole and Sunghee. In 2008, Sunghee left the group and members Hara and Jiyoung were then added to the group.
In 2014, Nicole and Jiyoung officially withdrew from the group following their contract expiration. Nicole then pursued a solo singing career, while Jiyoung pursued an acting career in Japan.
A new member for the group was then recruited through the survival show “KARA Project” in which Youngji was chosen.
Meanwhile, DSP Media has yet to comment regarding the issue.
